What are fissure sealants?
Fissure sealants are a preventative treatment.
A coating is applied to the deep grooves of the back teeth. The coating fills the pits and grooves so the biting surface of the tooth is smoother which means it is easier to clean and less likely to decay.
They are commonly used to protect the first adult teeth as they come through at around the age of 6 - 7 years but adults can also have their teeth protected using fissure sealants.
